Music
Intent
Our philosophy of music education is based on the principle that it should be fun and engaging for all concerned, and that every child is a born musician. We believe that music is like magic and that it has a role to play in every aspect of all of our lives, wherever and whoever we are. As a school we follow the Charanga Music Scheme of lessons as they provide a fun, holistic, differentiated, spiral approach to musical teaching and learning and responds to national requirements for music education and apply the latest pedagogical thinking in an accessible way for all of our children. From September 2023, all children in Yr3/4 will learn to play a brass instrument with a weekly music tutor from Love Music Trust.
Implementation:
Each Unit of Work comprises the of strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:
Our curriculum ensures children have the opportunities to play a range of instruments, both tuned and untuned, with children having the opportunity to learn either the piano or guitar with our weekly music teachers who come into school.
Composer of the Month April 2024 - Mason Bates
Children will find out about the Composer of the Month during the first Whole School Monday assembly of the month. They will listen to one of their pieces from the Ten Pieces - BBC Teach and will then hear the piece in their classrooms and during the start of assemblies throughout the month. Each week, the Composer of the Month will appear in our School Newsletter so that we can share the pieces with our parents and grandparents.
